Baseline Study and Stakeholder Mapping for Public Investment in Uganda's Culture Sector
The Director Legal, Advocacy and Partnerships (D-LAPS) Mr. Namakajo Deric Fredric who is also a member of the National Working Group for the Connect for Culture Africa (CfCA) Uganda attended the launch of the baseline Study and Stakeholder Mapping for Public Investment in Uganda’s Culture Sector at the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Developments.
The National Working group is championing the resolution passed by the African Union where all Member states are to allocate 1% of their country’s GDP to the creative sector.
As Umoja we join SELAM, Pearlwood and Pan African Network on Artist Freedom (PANAF) In championing the cause.
The creative Sector is one of the underfunded sectors if not I prioritized sectors in Uganda. It’s a sector which if given attention and priority it has the potential of contributing a lot to the countries GDP. Bench mark can be made to the state of Creatine Arts in Nigeria and South Africa where the government is prioritizing the creative arts sector.
As such, we need to come together and advocate for better policies and public funding for the creative arts sector in Uganda
